Our Impact Why We Exist

The Summerland Asset Development Initiative is a youth driven movement that provides opportunities, activities, and support for Summerland youth and families. We work within the asset development framework that believes that all youth benefit from opportunities to develop their positive qualities and a deeper connection to their community while building on their innate capacity to make good choices, become healthy individuals, adapt easily to change, and reach their full potential.

Our Story What We Do

SADI was started in 1998 as a grassroots organization to meet the needs of local youth. SADI was developed along the lines of the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets Framework. It brought together the larger community to bring a passion and voice to the youth issues facing our community. A Search Institute survey was dispersed at Summerland schools to get an idea of the attitudes and behaviors of our youth so that we might develop opportunities and activities that would have a positive effect on youth. Since our inception, SADI has organized community forums, youth conferences, developed the youth club, and worked directly with youth and community members and organizations to foster positive youth development and regard in Summerland. Today, we continue to provide recreation and volunteer opportunities within the community for our youth members as a means for providing a safe and supportive environment for them to develop positive skills and characteristics that contribute to a beter future!

Our Programs How We Do It

SADI provides a wide range of activities that provide youth with a constructive way to use their time while building self-confidence, empowerment, and positive self-concept. SADI operates a youth drop-in center that provides a safe, supervised space for youth aged 10 to 18 to build social skills, receive support, build relationships and participate in fun activities. SADI also encourages youth members to build leadership skills through volunteer opportunities in community events and activities, as well as through planning and implementing activities within the youth center. These activities are the means for fulfilling our mission by fostering a positive environment where youth can thrive and meet their fullest potential.

SADI is supported by community partnerships, grants, and private donors.
