Penticton Academy of Music Society

Penticton Academy of Music Society is a charitable, nonprofit organization formed in 1994 with the mission to provide music education to students of all ages and circumstances through an outstanding faculty in an environment that stimulates music appreciation, enriching the community at large.

Penticton Academy of MusicOur Impact Why We Exist

Penticton Academy of Music offers instruction for children of preschool age to adults. Individual lessons are available in voice, piano, guitar, cello, flute, violin, viola, speech arts, musical theatre, harp, theory and composition. The Academy also offers group lessons in piano, violin, speech arts, musical theatre, choir and orchestra. Past summer programs have included Bard in the Yard, Kids on Broadway and Musical Roots. For each of its programs, the Academy provides public performance opportunities to allow students to perform in front of an audience and experience all aspects of performance. Each year bursaries and scholarships are awarded to provide financial aid for families that are unable to afford lessons otherwise.

Our Story What We Do

Penticton Academy of Music provides opportunities for outstanding music education. We have qualified faculty members teaching a variety of instruments and classes:

We ensure quality teaching. Potential faculty go through an interview and selection process before joining the Academy, as well as a criminal record check.

We ensure choice. We recruit music teachers to the area based on need. For example, some of our teachers commute from the Central Okanagan to the Academy.

We offer group classes.  An important element of music education is learning to play with others.

We provide accountability. We manage the payment and registration process on behalf of students and teachers.

We make music accessible through a bursary program and instrument loans.

We offer enriching opportunities for students, including monthly recitals, workshops, and summer school.
