Okanagan Hockey Community Foundation
Our Impact Why We Exist
The primary focus of the Okanagan Hockey Community Foundation is to promote educational opportunities through student athlete hockey programs and hockey camps. We believe in the concept of creating an avenue to those with financial barriers to experience quality and exceptional academic and athletic opportunities. By providing to those in need, hockey camps and hockey sport academies offer a structured and accountable environment which will allow young students and aspiring athletes to gain and implement skills long term in all aspect of their lives.
Our Story What We Do
The Okanagan Hockey Community Foundation gained its registered charitable status in September of 2017. During the summer of 2017, prior to obtaining registered charitable status, the Okanagan Hockey Foundation partnered with School District 67 Okanagan Skaha. This partnership provided 18 hockey camp participation spots for elementary school aged children, which 16 of the children had never had the opportunity to participate in a camp or the sport.
Our Programs How We Do It
The Okanagan Hockey Community Foundation scholarships and bursaries are designed to provide support to families with financial barriers that otherwise would not be able to afford avenues for their children to participate in hockey camps or attend sport academies. Sport school scholarships are targeted to students in grades 7 to 12, while hockey camp bursaries are targeted to children from 6 through 16 years of age. Student athlete and camp programs are geared towards building character and life skill lessons such as accountability, discipline, team work, self confidence, respect and community engagement.
What You Can Do
Your support of the Okanagan Hockey Community Foundation can help afford opportunities to those who live with financial barriers, alleviate financial obstacles of families in need, provide opportunities for students and athletes to engage in productive educational, athletic and personal advancement processes, and support at risk children from choosing an alternate path. A donation of $5000 can support up to 7 children to attend hockey camps that may have not otherwise been able to attend.
