Okanagan College Foundation
Our Impact Why We Exist
Through the generous support of our donors, we provide over $700,000 annually in scholarships and bursaries to students at our four campuses (Penticton, Kelowna, Vernon and Salmon Arm). The average student has an unmet financial need of $2,163 after all sources of income are taken into consideration. These awards can make the difference for a student being able to complete their studies and go on to a career in our our communities.
We provide financial support for capital projects to develop sustainable learning environments including the Jim Pattison Centre of Excellence at the Penticton Campus and the Trades Complex at our Kelowna Campus. Each classroom or lab is outfitted to reflect the best in industry standards.
Our Story What We Do
Since 1963 Okanagan College has played a vital role in providing quality post-secondary education to students through the Southern Interior. Through our four campuses we offer more than 130 apprenticeship, degree, diploma and certificate programs: trades/apprenticeship, Health and Social Development, University Transfer - Arts and Science, Business, Engineering Technologies, Computer Science, Foundational programs - upgrading/ESL, Continuing Studies including several viticulture related programs at the Penticton Campus. Over 20,000 people study at the College every year.
The Okanagan College Foundation supports students through our awards program, providing over $700,000 annually in scholarships and bursaries. The College also raises funds for new energy-efficient facilities and program support to ensure students are receiving education with enhanced equpment for teaching and new curriculum for programs to address current and future industry demands.
Our Programs How We Do It
The Okanagan College Foundation has a volunteer Board of Directors that guides the activities of the Foundation and ensures the responsible and ethical management of financial resources.
Awards program: generous donors provide funds to establish awards to support specific programs within different faculties and departments of the College. They may choose to set up a named annual award, an expendable fund where capital can be drawn down at any time, an endowed fund where capital is preserved or a memorial award to honour someone special. Recipients are selected by a committee and the Foundation arranges for the donors to meet the receipients and present the cheque.
Capital projects: the Foundation works with a volunteer Campaign Cabinet to identify and approach relevant donors to support a specific capital project. Donors may support the construction of the project or provide program support for the activities within the facility. They may also choose to donate a gift-in-kind to support a specific program. Naming opportunities are available for support of these types of projects.
