Highway to Healing Support Society
Our Impact Why We Exist
When a child in our community suffers a serious illness or injury, it is often necessary for the families to travel outside of this area for medical attention. There could be many visits required to medical facilities in larger centres thus creating financial hardship for a family already under stress. Highway to Healing has identified a need to help families who find themselves in this situation.
Our Story What We Do
Highway to Healing Support Society (H2H) assists families whose children are under 19 years of age and live in the Town of Oliver or Area C of the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen. We will contribute funding for transportation, accommodation and incidental expenses while they are away from home. H2H also provides a comprehensive contact list of other organizations and programs available and may assist with the completion of any applications required.
Our Programs How We Do It
When contacted by a family or their representative we gather details of their situation. Our board of seven members then determine eligibility for support. Recognizing the urgency of the situation we are usually able to provide funding within 24 hours or less.
We publicize Highway to Healing in the community by placing rack cards in local doctors’ offices, the hospital and notices in the local media. H2H directors do presentations to other local service organizations and set up displays and information booths at community events.
